Biel / Bienne (Switzerland) / Foster City, (CA, USA), November 30, 2015 – Swatch SA and Visa Inc. together with Visa Europe have signed an agreement giving eligible Visa cardholders in the U.S., Switzerland and Brazil the ability to tap and pay with Swatch’s new «pay-by-the-wrist» watch, Swatch Bellamy. Slated to launch in early 2016, Swatch Bellamy can be used globally, anywhere contactless, NFC-based (near-field communications) Visa payments are accepted.

Fully consistent with the DNA of the pioneering Swiss watchmaker, Swatch Bellamy combines exciting yet functional Swatch design with state-of-the- art payment technology from Visa. Swatch Bellamy will open a new era of connected commerce, as mobile payment acceptance continues to increase around the world.

Why «Swatch Bellamy»? In his fascinating 1888 novel «Looking Backward 2000-1887», American writer Edward Bellamy envisions a utopian world in which cash has been replaced by credit/debit cards –Bellamy was the first to write about such cards, forty years before anyone else. Always happy to acknowledge fellow innovators and visionaries, Swatch has named its new pay-by-the-wrist watch «Swatch Bellamy». It‘s also true that «bel ami» means «good friend» in French, and the new Bellamy watch will doubtless become a good friend to its wearer.

Contactless NFC technology uses high-frequency radio waves to enable electronic devices to communicate over short distances, usually less than 10 cm. The new Swatch Bellamy watches have all the fun, color and great design that Swatch is famous for – and a built-in NFC chip hidden under the dial. Like a prepaid bankcard, a Swatch Bellamy watch allows customers to pay for items using merchants' contactless POS terminals. Pay-by-the-wrist transactions require absolutely no energy at all from the watch itself, meaning customers can expect the usual battery life of a Swatch.

Swatch Bellamy, in collaboration with Visa, is scheduled to be initially available in early 2016 in the U.S., Switzerland, and Brazil. Swatch Bellamy was first presented in China, in October 2015.

Swatch s’associe à Visa pour les paiements sans contact pay-by-the-wrist

Bienne (Suisse) / Foster City (CA, USA) le 30 novembre 2015 – Swatch SA et Visa Inc aux côtés de Visa Europe ont signé un accord qui permet aux détenteurs de carte Visa éligibles aux États-Unis, en Suisse et au Brésil, de régler leurs achats avec la nouvelle montre «pay-by-the-wrist» (paiement au poignet) Swatch Bellamy. La Swatch Bellamy, dont le lancement est prévu pour début 2016, est utilisable partout où les paiements VISA sans contact utilisant la technologie NFC (Near Field Communication) sont acceptés. 

En parfaite cohérence avec la tradition d’innovation de l’horloger suisse, la Swatch Bellamy combine un design aussi séduisant que fonctionnel avec la technologie de paiement de pointe Visa. La Swatch Bellamy ouvre la voie d’une nouvelle ère de commerce connecté alors que les moyens de paiement mobile sont de plus en plus utilisés dans le monde.

Pourquoi le nom de «Swatch Bellamy»? Dans un roman captivant datant de 1888, «Cent ans après ou l’An 2000», l’auteur américain Edward Bellamy imagine un monde utopique dans lequel les cartes de paiement ont remplacé la monnaie – Bellamy a été le premier à imaginer de telles cartes quarante ans avant quiconque. Saisissant toujours l’occasion de faire reconnaître d’autres innovateurs et visionnaires, Swatch a donc appelé sa nouvelle montre pay-by-the-wrist «Swatch Bellamy». Il est vrai aussi qu’en français «bel ami» désigne un ami cher. Nul doute que la nouvelle montre Bellamy deviendra un partenaire de route irremplaçable pour ceux qui la portent.

La technologie NFC utilise des ondes radio à haute fréquence pour permettre aux appareils électroniques de communiquer sur de courtes distances, en général inférieures à 10 cm. Les nouvelles montres Swatch Bellamy n’ont rien cédé au superbe design et aux couleurs vives qui caractérisent Swatch. Munie d’une puce NFC intégrée sous son cadran, la Swatch Bellamy fonctionne comme une carte prépayée qui permet aux clients de régler leurs achats sur les terminaux de paiement sans contact des commerçants. Les transactions pay-by-the-wrist ne nécessitent aucune source d’énergie de la part de la montre, ce qui signifie que les utilisateurs peuvent compter sur la durée de batterie standard d’une Swatch.

Le lancement de la Swatch Bellamy, en partenariat avec Visa, est prévu pour le début de l’année 2016 initialement aux États-Unis, en Suisse, et au Brésil. La Swatch Bellamy a d’abord été présentée en Chine, en octobre 2015.
