This year's Investor Relations Conference was held in Zurich on 7 December 2015. Around 90 participants enjoyed an interesting mix of presentations, panel discussions and workshops with highly-respected speakers during the all-day event. The participants made intensive use of the numerous networking opportunities provided throughout the day.
Marco Estermann, Head Issuer Relations at SIX Swiss Exchange, opened the conference by giving an overview of the current
SIX Swiss Exchange projects for equity issuers. The introductory presentation was followed by a panel discussion on
shareholder activism. Rudolf Bohli from RBR Capital Advisors AG
,
Gregor Greber of Veraison Capital AG, attorney Alexander Nikitine
from Walder Wyss Ltd and Andreas Schwarzwälder from
OC Oerlikon Management Ltd discussed whether shareholder activism
can constitute a constructive expression of shareholder commitment to corporate development or should be interpreted
as a hostile activity intended to achieve rapid short-term gains. The discussion and indeed the whole event were
chaired by Dr Hugo Bigi.
In the afternoon, Head SIX Exchange Regulation Rodolfo Straub
presented an update on current financial market regulations,
with an emphasis on the changes being implemented in response
to the FMIA, FIA and FAS that will affect issuers listed on
SIX Swiss Exchange. In the subsequent workshops, industry experts examined practical examples with participants. Dr Thomas Reutter
and Urs Brügger from Bär & Karrer Ltd gave answers to legal
questions frequently asked by listed companies. Marcel Speiser from the
Handelszeitung illustrated examples of best practice when
communicating with financial journalists. Daniel Zaugg from
Ernst & Young AG
gave a presentation on the differences
between the IFRS and Swiss GAAP FER accounting standards,
while Hugo Bigi's PR training offered advice on how to create
an effective media presence.
The day rounded off with a fascinating and engaging keynote address on the subject of the challenges facing the microstate of Switzerland by Professor Emeritus Dr Franz Jäger.
