New wind farm in Norway
BKW expands its wind power portfolio
Bern, 06 July 2017
BKW invests in a wind farm project in Marker in south-east Norway. The 15 turbines will be connected to the grid by the end of 2018. The installed capacity will be 54 MW with an estimated production of 193 GWh of electricity per year. This is BKW’s second investment in the Norwegian wind power sector, as it consolidates its position as the leading Swiss operator of wind farms in Switzerland and abroad.
The purchase agreement between BKW and Scanergy AS was signed yesterday in Bern. With an estimated production of 193 GWh per year, the farm will produce the annual consumption of more than 13,000 households. The farm is currently in the planning stages with work expected to begin in autumn 2017.
Local management of the project during the construction and operation phases will be provided by Proxima Scandinavia, a BKW affiliate that specialises in the technical and commercial monitoring of wind farms in Scandinavia. Proxima is a joint venture established at the end of 2016 by BKW and Norwegian company Captiva. The joint venture combines Captiva’s local experience in project development and construction with BKW’s European experience in its own renewable energy plants and those it manages for third parties.
This project will allow BKW to increase its wind power capacity in Norway. BKW already has a stake in Fosen Vind, Europe’s largest onshore wind farm project, where the first turbines will be operational as of next year.
With the purchase of this farm, BKW is strengthening its production of CO2-neutral energy. BKW operates windfarms with an installed capacity of 547 MW, additional 205 MW are planned or in construction. The planned annual production is around 1500 GWh. Its presence in Germany, Italy, Norway, France and Switzerland allows it to benefit from the geographic and regulatory differences of the relevant countries.
