Groundbreaking ceremony for the WolkenWerk project – Work on the buildings with more than 300 apartments gets off to a celebratory start in the Zurich district of Oerlikon | First occupants to move into the sustainable housing from 2020
Dietlikon, 23 August 2017 – City councillor Filippo Leutenegger, head of the civil works and waste disposal department of the city of Zurich, gave the starting signal for work on the WolkenWerk project on Wednesday together with clients Leutschenbach AG and Nyffenegger Immobilien AG, Ateliergemeinschaft Sihlquai AG (comprising Von Ballmoos Krucker architects, Staufer & Hasler architects and Ghisleni Partner AG) and Implenia CEO Anton Affentranger. As a general contractor, Implenia is getting building work under way for three residential blocks and their understructure in the up-and-coming quarter of Zurich North at a contract value of around CHF 150 million (see press release on the winning of the project). With its integrated approach, Implenia will also be offering foundation engineering and master builder services. Implenia applied Building Information Modeling (BMI) principles even in the early bidding phase to ensure its construction costs were planned as efficiently as possible.
In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, councillor Leutenegger highlighted the project’s significance in terms of bringing the “Interior Garden” project to life: “Although there was no overarching plan, private players and local administrators have put a great deal of effort into creating a green space that adds significant value to the district of Leutschenbach as a whole. The Interior Garden isn’t just a green space between the buildings – it’s actually the district's main green focal point.” Implenia has already played a key role in the urban development of the Zurich North quarter with projects such as Quadro, Oerlikon train station and The Metropolitans. With the Andreasturm project, Implenia is currently also showcasing its building construction expertise in this part of town.
The 300-plus sustainable WolkenWerk freehold apartments comply with the Minergie standard and could not be more varied in style: from studios and loft-like garden apartments through to exclusive penthouse maisonettes. Nyffenegger Armaturen AG will also be moving its production facility into one of the basement floors of the buildings. Future occupants will gradually begin to move in from 2020 onwards. To help take subsequent owners’ wishes into consideration, they will be able to explore their apartment and select materials for the interior fittings virtually via an app.
