Implenia wins new order in Sweden – Tunnel to expand Stockholm’s energy supply | Contract worth around EUR 90 million | Implenia in joint venture with Hochtief

Dietlikon, 21 December 2018 – Implenia, in a joint venture with Hochtief, has won the contract to build the Anneberg-Skanstull tunnel in Stockholm. Implenia and Hochtief Infrastructure have equal stakes in the joint venture selected by project owner Svenska Kraftnät (the Swedish National Grid), with Hochtief taking the technical lead. The overall order volume is around EUR 90 million.

As the second of four phases in the “City Link” project, the Anneberg-Skanstull tunnel will help improve electricity supply in the Greater Stockholm region. With a length of around 14 km and a diameter of 5 m, the tunnel is being built around 50 - 100 m below the Swedish capital using a tunnel boring machine. The project also includes six ventilation shafts, elevator systems and the construction of technical buildings for electrical equipment near Anneberg and around the shafts. Completion is scheduled for 2024. The aim of the City Link project is to connect the north (Upplands Väsby) and the south (Huddinge) of Stockholm with a new electricity supply. For Implenia, experts from the Infrastructure sector are working hand in hand with the local Swedish unit Implenia Sverige on the project.

“Winning this order underlines our expertise in challenging infrastructure construction and our excellent local foothold. Together with our partner Hochtief, we will soon be embarking on the realisation of this milestone in electricity infrastructure”, says René Kotacka, Head of Business Unit Infrastructure at Implenia. “We are pleased to be able to demonstrate our tunnelling expertise once again on this new job in Sweden. With our partner Implenia, we are helping to expand the local grid and ensure a stable electricity supply for Stockholm,” says Klaus Grüttner, Executive Vice President of Hochtief Infrastructure GmbH, Europe West.
