HUBER+SUHNER erzielt markante Steigerung von Umsatz und Ertrag
20.08.2013 06:45:00

HUBER+SUHNER achieves marked increase in net sales and income
20/08/2013 06:45:00
HUBER+SUHNER has recorded a very positive first term of 2013 overall. All divisions have contributed to the strong growth in net sales (+23.2 % auf CHF 387.5 million). Compared with the weak previous year, the operating profit (CHF 29.4 million) improved considerably, too, and the EBIT margin (7.6 %) is within the target range again. This is particularly pleasing in view of the fact that, as the result of two insolvent customers in the solar field, high provisions were again recorded.
The marked increase in net sales is attributable above all to massive growth in the Fiber Optics division (+57.0 % to CHF 127.6 million). High investments in the infrastructure of the latest mobile communication generation and strong demand in connection with “Fiber to the Antenna” ensured full order books at the beginning of the year and correspondingly high net sales in the first few months. In the Low Frequency division, the downturn in the solar field continued as anticipated. However, the strong growth in the railway and automotive markets was able to more than compensate for this drop in net sales. Established business in the Radio Frequency division increased. In addition, the successful integration of the Astrolab company likewise contributed to the pleasing increase in net sales.
As expected, order intake (-9.7 % to CHF 352.4 million) was not able to keep pace with the growth in net sales. This was above all due to the particularly special dynamics in the Fiber Optics division. The high level of deliveries in this division was attributable largely to orders placed in the previous year. This was accompanied by the base effect in solar business.
The main markets of HUBER+SUHNER developed inconsistently: whereas net sales in communication (+37 %) and in transportation (+28 %) rose significantly, the growth in net sales in the main market of industrial amounted to only 3 %. This was attributable to continuously shrinking sales in the solar business. By contrast, industrial high-tech niches such as space and defence as well as test and measurement were able to increase their net sales significantly.
Both EBIT and net income increased sharply during the first half year. The most important positive contributing factors were the very high earning power of the two divisions Radio Frequency and Fiber Optics and the financial result. A negative impact was caused by the provisions in the area of solar which dragged the Low Frequency division into the red again following its return to profits. In the first half-year, the Group’s EBIT margin was again within the medium-term target range. A high free operating cash flow (CHF 54.7 million) resulted from increased income combined with lower investments. The number of permanent employees fell slightly during the first term.
HUBER+SUHNER is optimistic about future business development. However, the second term of 2013 is likely to be more restrained than the first. With regard to the entire business year, HUBER+SUHNER anticipates a growth in net sales of around 5 % compared with the previous year and an EBIT margin within the medium-term target range of 6–9 %.
