ADB LAUNCHES CLOUD-BASED ADB TEST TOOL FOR OPERATORS; REDUCES DEPLOYMENT AND REPAIR COSTS

ADB to debut Test Tool at IBC 2013 Hall5 StandB48

  • Drives down deployment costs by resolving many device-related technical issues early in the process
  • Reduces logistics costs and frees up specialist repair engineers
  • Runs factory tests for ADB and third party manufacturer set-top boxes and modems
  • Support for routers and gateways, as well as HDMI-enabled retail devices, will follow soon

10th September 2013 – Geneva, Switzerland: Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB), a leading provider of advanced solutions for the connected home, today announced ADB Test Tool, enabling operators to quickly detect STB technical issues at their retail outlets and service centres. Test Tool will be unveiled at IBC2013, Hall 5 Stand B48.

ADB Test Tool filters out NFF (no fault found) devices early in the repair cycle, minimising the significant proportion of units wrongly declared as faulty by users and returned for repair. Removing these devices from the repair cycle not only eliminates the logistical costs associated with sending devices for repair but also frees up skilled engineers to focus on fixing genuinely faulty devices.

ADB Test Tool currently supports ADB and third party manufacturers’ STBs and DSL and cable modems. Support for routers and gateways, as well as HDMI-enabled consumer devices such as games consoles, will follow in the near future.

“When deploying tens of thousands of STBs in the field, the right choice of testing tool is critical. ADB Test Tool is the culmination of our many years’ investment in developing best practices for testing. By resolving technical issues faster, this tool can dramatically cut costs while increasing subscriber loyalty,” said John Justo, COO at ADB.

ADB Test Tool’s software and results database are hosted in the cloud. A central server holds all the testing information and provides regular analysis reports about the tests by location. It also provides live information to the repair lines about the products that will be returned following the on-site test. The tool’s flexible design allows users to define the testing parameters on a case-by-case basis.

Customers can buy, lease or rent the ADB Test Tool. Depending on their on-site requirements, operators can choose either a PC-based test tool, which tests one STB at a time, or a rack-based version which can test up to 16 or 32 devices simultaneously.
