- ADB CloudHDS delivers OTT content as well as broadcast content to connected devices from the cloud
- Uses HMTL5 to enable multimedia service providers to offer a consistent user experience across all devices

22nd October 2013 - Geneva, Switzerland: Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB), a leading supplier of advanced solutions for the connected home, today unveiled CloudHDS, a new, cloud-based, multi-screen system. CloudHDS enables existing and new entrants to the fast-growing OTT space to deliver OTT content - as well as broadcast content, provided there is a suitable gateway - to connected devices and selected STBs from the cloud, using the HTML5 standard.
CloudHDS uses the principle of “write once, use anywhere” to ensure a consistent navigation and user experience across SmartTVs, PCs, tablets, smartphones, and suitable STBs.
Unlike the multitude of OTT-only solutions on the market, CloudHDS draws on ADB’s expertise in hybrid delivery to bridge the gap between linear TV and broadband and bring a comprehensive, virtual STB experience to connected devices.
This solution is targeted at any multimedia service provider requiring an OTT play, including: traditional content providers who want to integrate with existing TV services; OTT content providers; and content producers who want to reach end users directly.
A service based on ADB’s CloudHDS will appeal to consumers who want to watch broadcast and OTT content on new platforms such as tablets and smartphones. User set up is easy: they simply need to point their browser to the relevant web page to launch the service on their device - or they can connect by using a launcher app the first time they use the service.
CloudHDS complements the recently-launched ADB Multi-Screen, which uses a hybrid model blending broadcast and broadband delivery with home network content redistribution to deliver a multi-screen service at home and on the move.
“ADB believes it is important to offer multimedia service providers a comprehensive range of advanced, multi-screen delivery options, making it easier for them to choose the most appropriate technology for their needs. We have taken a new approach to cloud multi-screen and designed CloudHDS to offer broadcast as well as OTT content, which we believe gives our solution the edge in this market,” said Peter Balchin, CEO at ADB.
Future versions of CloudHDS will also support Graphyne, ADB’s acclaimed next generation user experience.
