| Shaping the future by combining sensors and emitters |
|
Mobile World Congress Barcelona (MWC), one of the most influential exhibitions for the mobile connectivity industry, is around the corner. It will confirm what we already saw last month at CES: sensors and optical technologies are everywhere. They are fundamental for improved and new use cases across digital health, smart home, computing and mobile devices of every kind. Notably in consumer technologies, including augmented and virtual reality, it is all about connecting machines to each other, making them smart and sustainable, allowing them to interact with humans.
Optical technology plays a crucial role by closing the gap between the physical and the digital world.
At ams OSRAM our expertise is in combining sensors, emitters and software to bring to light the information that our environment holds. Our job is to enable our customers to develop the products and solutions that make life better for everyone.
Our MWC virtual showroom puts the latest technologies at your fingertips, directly where and when you need it. Experience leading-edge optical technologies for mobile and consumer, automotive, health, and industry. Learn how our broad portfolio of miniaturized solutions enhance displays, enable smart access, create perfect images, monitor vital signs, and enable smart glasses for AR/VR applications and creates personalized experiences in automotive. And find out how our UV-C technology makes the world cleaner and safer.

| Advancing Augmented Reality |
Augmented Reality (AR) systems allow smart glasses to merge our physical world with virtually-augmented data and value-adding information. It is already revolutionizing consumer applications as widespread as gaming, design visualization, education and training, and navigation. Projecting virtual information onto special eyeglasses, or directly onto the user’s retina, requires extraordinary technology. ams OSRAM covers the entire product range required – spanning both visible and infrared laser diodes, VCSEL and LEDs, to photodetectors and integrated sensor solutions. With comprehensive technology know-how and component miniaturization, ams OSRAM is uniquely positioned to enable the development of the next wave of consumer wearable devices. For example, our new Vegalas™ surface-mount module prototype halves the size of the essential projection light engine in smart AR/MR glasses enabling their design to look and feel as comfortable as standard consumer fashion frames. |

Faster and more flexible color matching, lighting control, and spectral analysis
Whether optimizing indoor horticulture lighting, helping alarms to distinguish smoke type, or matching color in a wide range of consumer and industrial applications, our new spectral sensor adds XYZ technology to increase the speed and accuracy of color measurements. The multi-purpose AS7343 combines 14-channel spectral analysis of visible and IR light with XYZ channel to match the human eye’s perception of color and light intensity. |

Compact design and ease of integration
System manufacturers benefit from the compact design and ease of integration of the ams OSRAM recently launched world’s smallest multi-zone direct time-of-flight module for camera laser distance auto-focus (LDAF), computing user presence detection, and smart home applications like robotic vacuum cleaners or electronic door locks. |
| 3D sensing - Active Stereo Vision, Time of Flight, Structured Light 3D sensing is increasingly enabling critical applications like accurate facial and gesture recognition, secure payments, convenient access management, realistic gaming, 3D imaging, Augmented Reality - ams OSRAM is working at the forefront of all 3D sensing technologies (Active Stereo Vision, Time of Flight, Structured Light) |
| Behind-OLED display – optical sensing enabling bezel-less smartphones ams OSRAM ambient light sensing (ALS) & proximity detection technology is opti-mized for operation behind the OLED display enabling smart-phone and tablet designers to maximize the display area for differentiating higher speci-fication devices. The mobile handset market will continue to follow the trend to higher screen-to-body ratios and ultimately to all-screen, bezel-less smartphones.

Hermes 3D camera evaluation kit for fast proof-of-concepts with ASV/SL
Whether measuring volumes in logistics or production, authenticating a user’s face, or allowing safe robot collaboration, 3D cameras have become popular in industry for 3D object recognition. ams OSRAM offers illuminators and sensor solutions for 3D vision systems to support this need. With the Hermes 3D camera evaluation kit, customers can evaluate ams OSRAM’s ASV and SL depth maps and quickly build proof-of-concept prototypes thanks to the simple user interface. The 3D camera uses our latest Belago 1.1 dot projector featuring a focus free, high contrast, and randomized 5k dot pattern, our PMSIL+ flood illuminator as well as two Mira130 high QE image sensors. |
| Smallest miniature camera module for consumer, robotics and HABA applications
The smallest digital camera module NanEye is a full-featured image sensor offering unique solutions for size-critical applications without compromising on design flexibility and performance. The combination of small size, high image quality, and high frame rate mean it can be used for video applications in which the camera must be invisible to the end user, or be accommodated in an extremely small space. For instance, it is ideal for AR/VR headsets, mini-drones or robotics, and smart computing. The NanoVision evaluation kit is for lower frame rate applications like presence detection and the NanoBerry kit is for more demanding applications like eye tracking and stereo vision systems. |
