Glencore Xstrata (‘Glencore’) published today its 2012 Sustainability Report, the first following the merger of Glencore International and Xstrata plc in May 2013.
The 2012 Sustainability Report provides an overview of the combined company’s approach to all of the key areas of sustainability. The integration process has identified a number of material areas that will be key focuses for the enlarged company’s sustainability team going forward. These are: • Safety; • Community; • Environment; and • Human Rights.
Our 2012 sustainability report details the steps we are taking to improve our performance in all of these vital areas.
Following the successful integration of two separate reporting systems, the report details both companies’ sustainability performance and performance against targets during 2012.
Recognising the publication of the sustainability report, Ivan Glasenberg, CEO, commented:
“We are aware of the challenges and opportunities that face the company. One of our key objectives is to enhance sustainability performance throughout Glencore. Our robust approach during the integration process demonstrates our ambition to see sustainability embedded in all areas of our business.”
In addition to fully integrating our approach to sustainability, Glencore’s new statement of values and Code of Conduct were rolled out and came into effect across the combined group on the day the merger was completed. These two documents provide our employees and other stakeholders with an understanding of the principles by which we work and how we expect our business to operate.
Finally, we are pleased to announce that Glencore has been awarded membership of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, a significant achievement for a newly merged group. This recognition is an acknowledgement of what we have accomplished to date and encourages us to continue to create value for all our stakeholders.
We welcome feedback on this report, which can be sent to global.gcp@glencore.com
