automotive technology. The changes we see today are a true acceleration. In past decades, the engine, chassis and driving experience came first. Today, with cars becoming increasingly electrified, automated, connected and shared, users and drivers care more about the overall experience – safety and comfort, connectivity and entertainment, increased interaction with the vehicle's functions and features. Empowering this new automotive paradigm, optical solutions play an essential role.
In our expert interview, Gerald Broneske offers insights on how optical solutions drive the future of mobility. |

A new era in road safety: breakthrough innovation in automotive front lighting
Meet EVIYOS® 2.0, a novel intelligent multipixel LED for front lighting that creates a fundamental leap in road safety in more ways than one. It can selectively illuminate the road ahead to maximize the driver’s view in high-beam mode without creating glare for other road users, including oncoming traffic. The technology advances to deliver 25,000 megapixels for fundamentally more emitting power. This gives drivers more time to react to hazards that would otherwise be invisible or partially hidden. Furthermore, EVIYOS® has the ability to project images onto the road at night, the car communicates in a new way with both the driver and others around the vehicle. |

Eye safety included: TARA product family for interior sensing has a unique interlock loop method
Interior sensing requirements go into effect for all new cars starting in 2024 with European Commission specifications – and we have the infrared technology that adds safety to your solution. New to our infrared laser module portfolio for automotive interior sensing is the TARA2000-AUT-SAFE family. These vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) offer a more reliable and robust eye safety feature than existing automotive VCSEL modules. |
| Two benefits in one: system cost reduction and higher energy efficiency with new OSLON® Compact PL
This third-generation LED continues a long trend of increasing energy efficiency, now offering 440 lm in the single-chip version instead of the previous 405 lm. By producing the luminous output required by safety specifications with fewer LEDs, the new OSLON® Compact PL LEDs offer manufacturers of automotive forward lighting higher value and new design options at lower cost. Higher energy efficiency is a great feature to help enhance battery life in e-vehicles. |
| Full performance and flexibility with just one footprint
Welcome the latest LED generation that contributes to overall visibility and safety in signaling applications. The SYNIOS® P2720 product family excels through its high brightness, low thermal resistance, and thermal stability. Featuring different chip size classes and colors with one common footprint, the SYNIOS® P2720 family also shines with high flexibility and full scalability offering a design freedom for a wide range of applications such as static signaling, rear fog, and rear turn. |

Close to perfection: color rendition with new True Color Sensor in camera images and displays Camera quality remains a differentiator for buyers looking at new smartphone models. Our leading-edge color sensor TCS3530 can put you ahead of the competition. The TCS3530 enables a smartphone camera to achieve near-perfect color rendition in any lighting conditions and helps displays to produce a more natural picture quality. The sensor’s highly accurate measurements of chromaticity and illuminance support superior automatic white balancing in cameras, as well as sophisticated display color management that users will see immediately. And for smartphone designers, the sensor’s new optical assembly includes a built-in diffuser to improve performance, save space, and reduce design complexity. |
| Generation upgrade: color lasers with higher beam quality for smaller power supply Scanner designers have the freedom to create smaller, more efficient products. The new generation of blue and green single-mode lasers are supplied in a range of optical power levels and two package options. The PLT3 products are available in a TO38 Metal Can® package, the PLT5 products in a TO56 package. Optical power output is 100 mW for the blue lasers, and between 10 mW and 50 mW for the green. Manufacturers of laser modules for scanning and leveling applications can use the new lasers’ tighter tolerances to reduce operating current and voltage, and so reduce the size of the power supply.
