Market Insights: The rising trend of security andinteroperability labels in Consumer IoT |
Recently the FCC launched the US Cyber Trust Mark initiative, a voluntary labeling program to increase product security awareness of consumer Internet of Things (IoT) based on NIST IR 8425. A little earlier, the European Commission leveraged on ETSI EN 303 645 to propose the EU Cyber Resilience Act with similar objectives. In parallel a growing number of consumer IoT players gather around interoperability standards like Matter for Smart Home devices. |
Device makers now need to consider compliance to these standards and their security requirements as part of their product development and launch plans. SEALSQ has just launched a dedicated service to support them in this challenge. |

First implementation for code signing |
This new feature ensures that the firmware running on IoT devices is trustworthy, adding more value to the SEALSQ security offering for IoT ecosystems. Firmware serves as the core software that operates and controls the hardware of IoT devices, making it a prime target for malicious actors seeking to exploit vulnerabilities. Code signing, a security practice that involves digitally signing code to verify its integrity and authenticity, becomes essential in guaranteeing that the firmware has not been tampered with or compromised. |
USE-CASE HIGHLIGHTS |
EV Charging |
SEALSQ has been appointed by VESTEL, a major global electric appliances manufacturer, to secure their latest Electric Vehicle (EV) "Plug & Charge" Stations, and more specifically for digital signing of metrological measurement data. All charging stations will need to support the "plug & charge" standard (ISO 15118) in the near future, which applies to both wired (AC and DC charging) and wireless charging use cases. |
![]() |
From a security standpoint, Plug & Charge process requires the EV and charging station to establish and share a secure communication link. Several required actions from both sides ensure confidentiality, data integrity, and authenticity |
Asset Tracking |
SEALSQ has entered into a project aiming at securing sensors for "smart-containers" with Caspian Container Company SA, a container logistics arm of Integral Group and WISeSat space, the subsidiary of WISeKey providing secure satellite IoT connectivity worldwide. |
![]() |
This project aims as well to create an industry-first consortium focused on the deployment of IoT-enabled devices and sensors to containers, thus facilitating global, instantaneous track and trace via the WISeSat Satellite constellation. Ultimately every Caspian Container Company container would be fitted with sensors embedding SEALSQ's VaultIC408 Secure Element. |
Defense & Public Safety |
In September 2023 AgEagle launched the eBee VISION, a cyber secure UAS designed for Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The eBee VISION embeds the VaultIC405 Secure Element from SEALSQ with a setup that protects the drone from any takeover attempt, enables data encryption, protects embedded software, and provides a unique identity to the drone for GCS pairing and strong authentication. The eBee VISION UAS is part of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)'s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) project to develop a customized command and control software that is compatible and fully compliant with the DoD Robotic and Autonomous System-Air Interoperability Profile ("RAS-A IOP"), within the scope of the Blue UAS program. |
Research & Development: A step forward in the Post-Quantum era... |
SEALSQ completed the development of a RISC-V post quantum test-chip, an important milestone in the development of a new generation of RISC-V Quantum Resistant Secure Platform. |
The first commercial version of the new SEALSQ platform (sampling will start in late 2024) will comply with key security benchmarks, like NIST FIPS, CC EAL5+ and will also align with the widely-recognized TPM 2.0 standard set by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG). SEALSQ plans indeed to use this platform to serve various segments of the secure chips market including TPMs, and Secure Microcontrollers dedicated to IoT, Automotive, Healthcare and Smart Energy applications. |
