In September 2024, 2,947,964 passengers passed through Zurich Airport, corresponding to an increase of 5% compared to last year. Passenger levels are 102% of those reached in September 2019 while the number of flight movements was below the 2019 level at 23,778 take-offs and landings.
In September, the number of local passengers was 2,100,949. Transfer passengers amounted to 29%, equal to 841,034 passengers.
Year on year, air traffic movements increased by 2% to 23,778 take offs or landings. A monthly comparison shows that air traffic movements are at 98% of the 2019 level. This means that while flight movements have decreased compared to pre-Covid level, the number of passengers has increased. The reason for this is that, on the one hand, larger aircraft are being used for operations and, on the other, the seat load factor is higher. The average passenger per movement figure increased to 141 (+1% vs. previous year). The average seat load factor was at 84% (+1 percentage point vs. previous year).
A total of 35,457 tons of freight were transported at Zurich Airport during the month of September. This led to an increase of 16% in freight volume compared to last year. Compared to September 2019, freight volume decreased by 3%.
