What we feature

Position sensors – the hidden heroes of the automotive industry

Some types of electronics components attract a lot of attention. Others quietly perform essential but largely unseen functions. For example, in this second category our portfolio proudly includes magnetic and inductive position sensors, capacitive sensors, and battery monitoring chips.

  • Manufacturers use position sensors for efficient, smooth-running electric motors in industrial pumps and fans.
  • A capacitive sensor in a vehicle’s steering wheel ensures safety by detecting the driver’s touch in assisted-driving mode.
  • Battery-powered industrial equipment runs longer between charges with cell-level information from our battery monitoring sensor.

These sensor ICs do a valuable job – but few would have ever noticed them.

Now – due to electrification – these products have come to the attention of a much bigger audience in the automotive industry. Electrification is not only evident in the powertrain of electric vehicles, but also in the improvement of many previously mechanical functions in steering or brake control.

Drawing on our unique analog semiconductor technology, these products had already achieved breakthroughs in position-sensing performance and the accuracy of battery-system measurement before the car industry knew it needed them.

Now, as the industry moves toward electrification and battery power, these essential but long invisible components, the hidden heroes, are moving into the spotlight.

OSLON® Black Flat S LED: higher brightness for automotive forward lighting

Now in its third generation, the OSLON® Black Flat S gets an upgraded chip with 16% higher brightness and the same footprint as Gen 2 devices for easy upgrading of headlamps, daytime running lamps and front fog lights. The OSLON® Black Flat S family of LEDs has established itself as the industry’s most popular surface-mount LED for forward lighting in both four- and two-wheeled vehicles. This is because its robust black leadframe QFN package is suited to automated SMT assembly and offers excellent contrast for use in reflector-based lamps.
