Koleje Mazowieckie orders 11 additional FLIRT trains, concluding the largest rolling-stock investment in its history

Polish regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie (Masovian Railways) and Stadler Polska have signed a contract for the delivery of 11 additional FLIRT electric multiple units, completing the operator’s largest-ever investment programme. Under the framework agreement, a total of 75 state-of-the-art trains will be supplied to the operator. To date, 64 units have already been contracted. The new vehicles will improve passenger comfort across Masovia.

"Mazovian Railways is one of the most modern regional carriers in the country, partly because they are constantly investing in new rolling stock. In March, we signed a contract for the purchase of 14 FLIRT trains, and today we signed another contract, this time for 11 trains. In total, the entire project will include the purchase of 75 trains, and the first of them will be on the tracks in April 2026," emphasizes Adam Struzik, Marshal of Masovian Voivodeship.

Beyond the delivery of the new units, the contract covers maintenance services, technical training for staff, and repair packages.

“We are pleased to see the full implementation of the framework agreement for 75 FLIRT trains. This marks an important milestone for our company and a further step toward modernizing our fleet. The purchase of 64 units has already received EU funding, and we will be applying for additional funding for the remaining 11,” said Robert Stępień, CEO and General Director of Masovian Railways.

400 new jobs and further development of Stadler’s Siedlce facility

All new vehicles will be manufactured at the Stadler’s Siedlce plant, with significant involvement from local partners and suppliers.

“The signing of this final executive contract is a milestone for us. Completing the full framework agreement allows us to continue expanding our Siedlce operations and strengthening our presence in the region. This year alone, we have created nearly 400 new jobs at Stadler Polska, and our engineering team has grown to 100 specialists – and we are still recruiting. This is excellent news not only for Stadler but also for our local partners, who play a vital role in delivering this project,” said Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska.

Poland’s largest FLIRT fleet to enhance passenger comfort across Masovia

Production of the previously ordered 64 units is progressing on schedule. At present, 25 trains are at various stages of manufacturing, commissioning, and type testing. Once all units are delivered, Masovian Railways will operate 146 FLIRT trains — the largest fleet of this type in Poland.

The new trains will substantially improve comfort and safety for passengers travelling between Warsaw and towns across the Masovian region. Featuring lightweight aluminum construction and low energy consumption, the FLIRT units can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and will be equipped with air conditioning, CCTV, Wi-Fi, passenger information systems, and onboard defibrillators. Each train is fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility.

Long-standing collaboration

The partnership between Stadler Polska and Masovian Railways spans almost 20 years. The first FLIRT trains delivered in 2006 continue to operate reliably on regional routes, including Warsaw–Siedlce. Between 2020 and 2023, Stadler delivered 61 FLIRT units to the operator, and under the contracts signed in 2024–2025, an additional 75 units will follow.
